The 96th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society @ Fukuoka
I attended the 96th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society @ Fukuoka and gave an oral presentation at the symposium ‘Towards quantification of germ cell quality’. This symposium was co-organized by the Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A) Dynamic Reproductive Lifespan (Representative: Dr Tomoya Kitajima). I was given the opportunity to present even though I am not a member of this area (thank you!). I presented our findings on chromatin regulation during spermiogenesis, which Dr Hada has been working on. The members of the area presented their findings on the visualization of chromosome dynamics in eggs (Dr Kitajima, RIKEN BDR), metabolic profiling in germ cell differentiation (Dr Hayashi, Tohoku University), the role of the oocyte nucleolus in fertilization (Dr Ogushi, Osaka Univ), the role of RNA metabolism in germ cell differentiation (Dr Akimitsu, Tokyo Univ), and the spatial Transcriptome PIC method (Prof. Kimura, Kyoto Univ.), and various topics ranging from the elucidation of the molecular basis of phenomena to the latest technological developments were introduced, making the 130 minutes fly by. The Kitajima group has just started in April 2023, so I am confident that many important finding will be produced in the next five years. Once again, thank you very much for the opportunity to present.
The conference itself was a great success, and although there was plenty of room at the nuclear and transcription-related symposia I visited, many of the sessions on intracellular organelles were crowded, and I felt that this was a slightly different trend from that of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan. I came home with the feeling that the students posters presentation are getting better year by year.
